I know it sounds counter-intuitive to place the words “Saturn” and “fun” in the same sentence.
But it is possible to experience joy with this ringed-planet.
I also realize that most (if not all) astrology enthusiasts are asking how, especially with words like responsibility, limitations, setbacks, discipline and hard work, associated with Saturn, which doesn’t necessarily sound like fun.
But, again, it is possible to have a good time with the task-master.
With an early-degree Aquarius Rising, Saturn is one of my chart rulers, as it is the ancient ruling planet of this fixed air sign (my other chart ruler is Uranus – the modern ruling planet of Aquarius).
Hence, I tend to feel Saturnian transits in profound ways at times.
On top of this, I have a tight Moon-Saturn conjunction close to a cusp of one of my angular houses.
Moon-Saturn combos are one of the hardest aspects in astrology, with a cold planet like Saturn blocking the light of a luminary like the Moon which represents our emotional bodies.
Moreover, when a planet or planets are right on an Angle (ASC, DSC, MC, IC) or close to it, like it is in my case, their energy is even more potent.
So, Saturnian energy has been quite prominent throughout my life.
I’ve been working with this energy most of my life – which I wasn’t conscious of in the past, but now I apply it in a more intentional way with my knowledge of astrology.
Part of working with Saturn has been finding ways to have fun with him, in spite of the limitations and setbacks he can bring.
And you can also have fun with him…
Saturn ingressed into Aries on 25 May 2025 (GMT).
The Lord of Time in this cardinal fire sign is considered to be in a “fall” position.
The fall placement means that this planet is not as comfortable in this sign as it would be in Libra (the opposite sign of Aries) where Saturn is “exalted” or in Capricorn or Aquarius where it’s in domicile.
The first sign of the zodiac, Aries, wants to forge ahead like a bulldozer, while a planet like Saturn loves to put blockages and obstructions in the way.
Therefore, as you can imagine, it’s not the easiest placement.
Having said this, you can still have a good time with Saturn, which I do at times even with a difficult placement of Saturn in Leo in my chart, which is considered to be in “detriment”.

Saturn will initially be in Aries until 1 Sep 2025 when it returns to Pisces to tie up loose ends.
It will then come back to Aries again next year on 14 Feb 2026 to stay here until 13 Apr 2028 (all dates in GMT).
Those with planets or Angles in Aries will feel Saturn’s presence the most at some points while it tours in the first sign of the zodiac.
Libras (the opposite sign of Aries) will also feel the Saturnian transit at times.
After a conjunction, an opposition is felt the most, followed by a square, which will be felt by Cancers and Capricorns during some points while Saturn is in Aries.
Oppositions (rivalry, competition) and squares (friction, obstacles) are hard aspects.
Trines (luck) and sextiles (harmony) are easy aspects.
When Saturn forms a trine or a sextile to a planet in one’s chart, it will also be felt to a lesser degree compared to a conjunction, opposition or a square.
Now, getting back to Saturn and fun…
Below are three key points to remember when you feel Saturn’s restraints, but still want to find ways to embrace Saturnian joy in the process:
1. DO NOTHING AT TIMES
Have you had those moments when you breathed a sigh of relief because a social plan got canceled and you ended up staying at home?
If you answered yes, that’s what Saturnian fun looks and feels like!
It’s like when you’re secretly happy that a social engagement didn’t work out.
And you’re blissed out lounging around in your pyjamas, while watching your favorite show or listening to podcasts you enjoy.
These moments may not seem like experiences you can share with the world on social media to announce how great your life is.
But these little uneventful moments play a huge part in helping you to conserve your energy, so that you can bring your A-Game into the world later.
This is not laziness, which Saturn is definitely not about.
But it’s about setting boundaries where you’re cocooned in comfort behind closed doors to protect valuable energy, which you can direct towards what’s most important to you.
Saturn after all is about boundaries, symbolized by the rings around it.
And Saturn’s presence in our lives can sometimes manifest as lack of energy.
The more you’re able to safeguard and shield your precious energy from getting scattered, the more fun you will have with the taskmaster.
This means that sometimes you’ll be choosing to do f*** all.
2. SLOW & STEADY WINS THE RACE
Saturn, which is also associated with old age, loves to slow you down.
The faster you try to move with Saturn, the more obstacles he will place in your way.
I know it’s hard for many to hear this, especially fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) who want movement and momentum with all the fiery energy.
Slower pace is particularly challenging for Aries, whether when learning something new or launching a project.
Impatience or sometimes even a mad rush to get to the finish line are some of the vices associated with trailblazing Aries.
But, with Saturn, there are no shortcuts.
It’s like the story of a disciple asking a monk, “How long will it take me to reach enlightenment?”
The monk answered, “10 years.”
The disciple then asked, “What if I work twice as hard?”
The monk replied, “Then it’ll take 15.”
I’m sure you get my point…
When Saturn is in the picture, it can sometimes take you much longer than you initially anticipated to reach your goals, even if you work twice as hard.
There will be times where you will have to repeat the same thing over and over again.
Hence, one of the ways to enjoy the process is to consciously slow down, including in your movement and in your speech, which I did when writing this post to embody Saturnian energy.
Enjoy the journey, rather than being in a hurry to get to the destination.
And appreciate the beauty of consistent effort and perseverance in reaching your goal.
If this doesn’t sound like fun, just imagine how the tortoise felt once she finished the race.
I picture her looking back at the hare to give him the middle finger for making fun of her in the past for being too slow – in my mind, that’s the ultimate Saturnian joy!
3. FOCUS ON ONE THING
Multi-taskers won’t like to hear this.
But when Saturn gets activated in your chart, it’s best to focus on one (or at most two) thing(s) that are important to you.
The more you throw yourself in a single project, the more mastery you will gain over it later, without even realizing that is what was happening when you were immersed in that activity.
This could be to get in the best shape of your life, or to learn to play the piano, or to work on a book, or to heal a health-related challenge, etc.
Whatever it is you’re trying to achieve, your unwavering attention and efforts toward a single goal will bring you success.
This is referred to as monomaniacal focus, where you eliminate and minimize distractions to put yourself in a bubble where you concentrate on one goal.
The more you do this on a daily basis, the more you’ll see results – and that’s where you’ll discover Saturnian fun!
Saturnian pleasure is not about dispersing your energy all over the place, but containing it and directing it towards your most cherished goals.
This means you’ll have to say “No” to things that divert your attention away from what’s important.
But you can have fun in saying “No”, knowing that the resentment you feel in agreeing to something that you don’t want to do will no longer take up space in your life.
There you have it.
These are the three key points to remember when it comes to enjoying your time with Saturn.
Saturnian fun is different from Venusian fun or Jupiterian fun.
Saturn is not like a Venusian friend with whom you can take selfies to showcase aesthetically-pleasing moments on Instagram.
He is also not like your Jupiterian buddy who is full of high-fives and chest-beating inspirational words that make your spirit sing with joy.
But he’s a trusted pal who accepts you as you are right now, without bells and whistles…
And who takes away things that are not good for you in the long run, so that you can enjoy the milestone moments later on in life, which you’ve always secretly dreamt of.
